For almost a decade, I have supported NAMI's mission in one way or another. Whether it was as a volunteer or employee, NAMI always had and always will hold a special place in my heart. I was affected by mental illness at a young age, learning to cope with depressive episodes and thoughts of suicide. Through treatment and therapy, I was able to overcome these challenges. My first interaction at NAMI Wood County in 2015 really opened my eyes to the great work being done at this organization for everyone affected by mental illness - including loved ones, like family members, spouses, and friends. Part of my recovery journey is being able to help others on their recovery journey, which is part of the great work I get to do at NAMI Wood County every day.
Mental Illness Awareness Week is observed during the first week of October each year. Each year, millions of Americans face the reality of living with a mental health condition, yet mental illness affected everyone directly or indirectly through family, friends or coworkers. The purpose of MIAW is to raise awareness of mental illness, fight discrimination and provide support. I believe mental health conditions are important to discuss year-round, but highlighting them during MIAW provides a dedicated time for mental health advocates to come together as one unified voice.
In part of this observation, I am participating in NAMI’s Do-It-Your-Way fundraising and awareness-raising program. The more money we can raise together, the better able NAMI Wood County is to continue offering their amazing, life-changing mental health programs.
I’m asking you to support my Do-It-Your-Way fundraiser with a donation. That way, people who face mental health conditions will not have to go another day without the mental health resources they need.
I’m all in. Always. Can I count on you to be the same? I’d be so grateful and so will the people who count on NAMI Wood County. It’s easy to make your contribution right here on my page.
